Associates Programme 2024-2025

The demand to participate in dance competitions has increased substantially over the last few years. This is due to the challenges training for competitions brings with it and the benefits students achieve both in their performance skills and technique as well as the artistic growth and confidence which are stimulated by such events. In light of this, the JCDC has launched the Associates Programme.

The JCDC Associates Programme is specifically designed to cater for these students by allocating hours designated to competitive dance training alongside the training they receive during their regular classes. JCDC’s Associates Programme is a programme of classes available to students aged between 9 and 15 years who are aiming towards competitive dance training. The programme is aimed for resilient, talented and committed students who are serious about developing their dance skills.

During the programmes, students will focus on developing their technique whilst building strength and confidence, complimenting the top class training the students receive from their regular classes at JCDC. Students will train in professional facilities under the expert guidance of an exceptional teaching faculty. Programmes are offered in Classical Ballet, Modern Dance and Contemporary.

The JCDC’s Classical Ballet Associate Programme is suitable for students who are looking for additional intensive classical ballet training to complement the training they currently receive during their classes. Each Associate session includes a mix of technique, pointe work (when applicable) followed by learning choreography for repertoire from 20th and 21st century classical ballets. Dancers interested in this programme should have a strong standard of classical Ballet for their age. Furthermore, a focused mindset and a desire to take on challenges and work outside of the comfort zone is essential. We are looking for dancers who actively seek out challenges and have a high level of commitment to the art of dance. Eligibility to the Classical Ballet programme is based on physical ability, personality, artistry and technical aptitude.

JCDC’s Modern Dance Associate Programme primarily focuses on developing a strong technical modern dance base, and the ability to then apply this base whilst expressing it through performance. The programme will help students to develop modern technique and virtuosity, experience a range of modern dance choreographic styles and enhance musicality and artistry. Dancers interested in this programme should have a strong standard of Modern dance and Ballet for their age. Furthermore, a focused mindset and a desire to take on challenges and work outside of the comfort zone is essential. We are looking for dancers who actively seek out challenges and have a high level of commitment to the art of dance.

Students in the JCDC’s Associate Contemporary Programme are taught to develop an understanding of established codified contemporary techniques, fusion and release styles. They also develop creative and improvisation skills whilst also learning repertoire suitable for competitions. Dancers interested in this programme should have a strong standard of Contemporary dance and Ballet for their age.
